Fundraise for us

Your fundraising will have double the impact.

Fundraise between 12th April – 11th July and the donations you raise will be doubled by the UK government. Host a Tea for Trees virtual tea party or join together with friends to run, walk or cycle in the Great Green Walk. However you choose to fundraise, you will directly contribute to the Great Green Wall. All match funding from the UK government will go directly to the Future Forest project in Metema.

Please note that donations raised before 12th April will not be doubled by the UK government.

Why fundraise?

Across the drylands of Africa people are living on the frontline of the climate crisis. Temperatures are rising, trees are disappearing, the land is becoming infertile and the desert is spreading. People can’t grow enough food to feed their families and are being plunged deeper into poverty.

The Metema forest in northern Ethiopia is in the last green belt before the start of the desert. But without action, it could be extinct within 20 years. This will have a devastating impact on communities who rely on the forest for food and income. There will be no buffer between them and the encroaching desert.

The Future Forest project

The funds you raise will mean we can work with communities to ensure they have the tools and training to grow and protect trees, enrich their environment and improve soil quality, so that they can live from the trees for years to come.

With your support, and match funding from the UK government, we will join forces with communities in Ethiopia to save the Metema forest from extinction, tackle the climate crisis and build a Great Green Wall to stop the advancing desert.

The Great Green Walk

Take part in the Great Green Walk:

  • Form a team with friends, family or colleagues
  • Work together to walk, run or cycle 80, 800 or even 8,000km – the width of the Great Green Wall across Africa
  • Use an app like Strava to track each other’s progress – but remember to stick to any government restrictions in place
  • Set up your JustGiving page to raise your funds – and anything raised between 12th April – 11th July will be doubled by the UK government.

The Great Green Wall

Tree Aid is working with communities across Africa to grow trees and restore land in support of the Great Green Wall movement. This African-led initiative envisages an 8,000km mosaic of restored land across the Sahel that will transform the lives of millions living on the frontline of the climate crisis.

Tea for Trees

Why not take part in our tea party, 'Tea for Trees' on 7th and 8th May? We’re asking you to get together (possibly virtually, depending on restrictions!) to drink tea, eat cake and donate however much you would have spent on a café trip with your friends.

Set up a JustGiving page and encourage your community to take part and donate.

Your Donation Doubled

Your donation will contribute to the Great Green Wall movement across Africa to tackle poverty and the climate crisis. The UK government’s match funding will fund the project in Metema, Ethiopia, working with communities to tackle the climate crisis and generate a sustainable income from trees.

This project will only happen with your support and the match funding from the government. Whether you raise £20 or £200, you will have an amazing impact.

“Tree Aid is a fantastic cause. They help vulnerable people, they help the environment, they help wildlife… there isn’t a box they don’t tick! I am honoured to support them.”
Rabbi Jonathan Wittenberg, Tree Aid supporter
