Ethiopia is a large country in East Africa, twice the size of France. Over the past 40 years, forest cover has rapidly reduced. Without trees to keep the soil fertile, the land is losing its fertility. This is making it harder for people to grow enough food. As a result, over two-thirds of the population are living in poverty.
Tree Aid has been working with communities since 1991, to tackle hunger, poverty, and the effects of the climate crisis.
From 2024 to 2025, we supported 14,924 people to grow 533,172 trees in Ethiopia. We also began working with four communities in the Gambella region, growing sustainable incomes through shea.

The whole system exists because there are trees, and if they are destroyed it would collapse.
