Tree Aid's work in Ethiopia

Ethiopia

Ethiopia is a large country in East Africa, twice the size of France. Over the past 40 years, forest cover has rapidly reduced. Without trees to keep the soil fertile, the land is losing its fertility. This is making it harder for people to grow enough food. As a result, over two-thirds of the population are living in poverty.

Tree Aid has been working with communities since 1991, to tackle hunger, poverty, and the effects of the climate crisis.

Our projects

From 2023 to 2024, we supported 12,474 people to grow 47 461 trees in Ethiopia. We also worked with 17 new enterprise groups, offering training in how to make sustainable incomes through non-timber forest products such as frankincense.
