Tree Aid is a UK-registered charity working in partnership with communities across Africa, in Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Ghana, Senegal, and Ethiopia.
Founded in 1987 by a group of foresters responding to famine in Ethiopia, Tree Aid was born from a belief that trees could offer more than emergency relief, they could provide a long-term solution to poverty and hunger. That belief still drives our work today.
Over the decades, Tree Aid has become a trusted organisation known for its expertise in nature-based solutions; tackling the connected challenges of poverty, desertification, and the climate crisis.

We believe in long lasting change. We stand with people across Africa, growing solutions to poverty and the climate crisis. Solutions that take root today and grow stronger for generations to come.
Trees and people are at the heart of everything we do. Our work is led by local communities to deliver the change they need and we have the results to prove it.
We imagine a world where land and life can thrive together and every tree we grow brings us one step closer.
When you support Tree Aid, your impact grows with the trees, supporting people and the planet for years to come
Local Power
We work alongside communities across Africa, providing tools and training to grow trees, protect land, and build thriving businesses; from seeds and water, to co-operatives and business training. We also work with governments to help secure land rights, ensuring communities have control over the natural resources they depend on.
Transformational Impact
Every tree grown or protected helps tackle poverty and malnutrition; while restoring ecosystems, improving soil and water health, and capturing carbon that drives the climate crisis.
Global Advocates
We share what works; locally, nationally, and globally. In partnership with the communities we serve, we advocate for policies that protect trees, uphold rights, and support long-term change for people and planet.

During 2023/24, for every £1 raised, we spent 90p on charitable activities, 9p on raising the next pound, and 1p on advocacy and awareness.
