How to leave a gift in your Will

By leaving a gift in your Will to Tree Aid you can leave a lasting gift of hope. Your gift will help us to support communities to grow nutritious food and incomes today, and restore the environment for future generations.

Ways to leave a gift

Once you've taken care of your friends and family in your Will, gifts in Wills are a special way to ensure that you can continue supporting things that are important to you.

First, decide what type of gift you would like to leave in your Will. Then consult your solicitor who may wish to use one of the suggested wordings below.

Different types of gift

There are three types of gift you can leave in your Will:

  • A share of your estate (a residuary gift) is the percentage of the remainder of your estate once all other legacies and costs have been paid. This gift won’t be affected by inflation.
  • A specific sum (called a pecuniary legacy), e.g. £10,000. Its real value will decrease over time due to inflation unless it is index-linked to the Retail Price Index.
  • A specific item of value such as antiques or jewellery.
