Women across the drylands of Africa are disproportionately affected by the impacts of the climate crisis.

Empowering women to grow trees and manage their land means restored land, improved incomes and better access to nutritious food.

You can help by putting more women in the driving seat of locally-led Tree Aid projects.

Amazing things happen when women come together

We know that women are powerful agents of change.

When women come together to learn new skills and support one another, they hold the key to delivering lasting change for their communities and the planet.

Women are struggling against the climate crisis

Communities across dryland Africa are facing erratic weather due to climate change. Severe droughts and flooding mean poor soil, making it difficult for women to grow food to eat and sell.

While men often move to urban areas to find work, women are left behind to look after their families and the land.

Without the right tools and training to care for trees, and with less and less fertile land, women are left without the skills to earn an income to meet their basic needs.

How trees can help women thrive

Trees offer a solution – they store water when there’s no rain and stop rich soil from being washed away, keeping the land fertile so other crops and trees can grow.

Empowering women with trees and land, means they can grow their incomes and access nutritious food.

This income and sustainable food supply helps them build resilience to climate shocks.

I find the benefits women get from associating with each other is that it helps women to have a good relationship… we share problems to each other and learn how to solve them. Being in a group we advise each other, so being together has helped us a lot." - Matilda Adumbire
