Ghana is a country in West Africa, similar in size to the UK. In northern Ghana, where Tree Aid has been working since 1994, people’s daily lives and livelihoods are devastated by a drastic reduction in fertile land and the climate crisis. People are struggling to grow enough food and poverty is increasing. Around 80% of the people living in northern Ghana are living in poverty.
Our projects are working to change this.
In the year 2023/24, we helped almost 30,000 people to grow nearly 800,000 trees across all our projects in Ghana. We also worked with 78 new village tree enterprise groups, supporting them to make and sell tree products.

“We have been on this project since the beginning and we are now in our third year. There’s so much we have learnt in that period - how to make compost, how to fence a garden, how to graft, how to plant trees and many other skills.”
