Two-thirds of Mali, a large country in West Africa, is desert. In the south of Mali where we work, most people rely on farmland for food and income. But climate change is making farming unpredictable and life tough. As a result, over a third of the population are living in extreme poverty.
We have been working with communities to tackle this since 1993.
In 2024-25, our projects across Mali saw a range of positive impacts. We supported over 65,000 people to nearly 772,000 trees. Over 22,600 hectares of land were brought under sustainable management, and over 850 hectares were restored, helping to improve soil fertility, grow incomes, and build resilience to the effects of the climate crisis.

Tree Aid is working with communities across Africa to grow trees and restore land in support of the Great Green Wall movement. This African-led initiative envisages an 8,000km mosaic of restored land across the Sahel that will transform the lives of millions living on the frontline of the climate crisis.
